    Congratulations Dr Hayden! After 13 years in Bmore and many visits to the Enoch Pratt and all its branches, we moved to Indianapolis in 2015. My family and I were thrilled to hear that you had been appointed Librarian of Congress. The Enoch Pratt is a precious jewel which you polished to perfection! I attended Edward P. Jones, Ruth Reichel and Madeline Albright’s talks, could not get in to hear Sandra Sotomayor, and raised 2 kids with Mother Goose on the Loose. My daughter remembers you greeting her at the library entrance. Thank you for all your good works and best wishes for continued success.

    As a public librarian, I am delighted that we now have a librarian in the position. As a woman, I’m delighted that we have our first woman. As an American, I am delighted that we have a person of color (aren’t we all colorful in our own way?!) in this position. My sincere congratulations on your selection as our Librarian of Congress!

    I can’t tell you how excited I am about your appointment as Librarian of Congress…an actual librarian, the first woman, the first African American! I remember writing to my Senator as soon as itbwas announced that Mr. Billington was stepping down and telling him that he’d better lobby for a real librarian who is also a woman. I know you will ge a terrific leader. One thing I would love to see is a simple, well-indexed website that gives Americans a quick and easy place to check the accuracy of “facts” that ate passed around on the Internet. Best wishes.
