We need your help! The libraries within Centinela State Prison in California have been neglected for some time, and need as many paperback donations as we can find.

My name is Jameson Rohrer, and I am the Senior Librarian for Centinela State Prison in Imperial, California. We are a library system which aids those who are incarcerated not only to improve their literacy, but also aiding them in overcoming their educational and informational obstacles in order to assist them in becoming productive members of society once again. Reading books, and participating in programming helps inmates across the board in a myriad of ways.

We began this page in January 2016 and we have received over 7,000 donations! From these donations, about 85% have been added to the collections. All thanks to you! What an awesome reflection of help we have received in the last two years! We are still in need of another 7,000-10,000 more books to reach the minimum number of books we need on the shelves. We will continue to seek any paperback general fiction, fantasy, science fiction, horror, historical fiction, thrillers, action adventure, young adult, biographies, mystery and suspense, popular non-fiction, and any encyclopedia sets newer than 2013. For the first time, we are implementing programs in the libraries. Due to your efforts the collections can now be utilized in many ways!

If you cannot ship any paperbacks to use we do have an Amazon wish list as well, with titles requested by the inmates and are added directly to the collections. This is a fantastic option. Once you sign up here, I will email you a copy of the donation form. Please fill it out as completely as possible and return it to my email address. Once the donation form is approved by my supervisors I can give you the go ahead.

Unfortunately we cannot help with the cost of shipping; however those who have donated previously have chosen to select “library rate”, or “media rate”, which brings down the cost of shipping. You can also use the market value of the books and the cost of the shipping as potential tax write offs.

Sincerely, Jameson Rohrer,
MLIS Senior Librarian
Centinela State Prison
