Pledge to Vote YES on Amendment 73 Colorado

Vote YES on Amendment 73 this November. Amendment 73 is a state constitutional amendment that will stabilize school funding and bring real funding equity to students and families across Colorado.

Our friends at the Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) and the Colorado Association of School Libraries (CASL) are asking you to join them in pledging to Vote YES on Amendment 73 this November. Amendment 73 is a state constitutional amendment that will stabilize school funding and bring real funding equity to students and families across Colorado.

In too many school and districts the largest classroom in the school - the library - sits empty or goes under used. School librarians play a huge role in helping every child succeed through special programs, individual support, and literacy services. But since the last recession, there have been huge cut to school libraries. It is time to change that in Colorado.

Just $5-10 helps us support campaigns like this one.

We are supporting Amendment 73 this November to start that process. While Amendment 73 does not guarantee funding for school libraries, it does position schools to have funds available so that we can have conversations about the importance of school libraries and professional staff to support the curriculum, teach critical online literacy skills, and generally prepare students for ongoing academic success.

CAL and CASL are early coalition endorsers of the “Great Schools, Thriving Communities” campaign because Amendment 73 is focused on improving learning and educational outcomes for students in small schools and big districts alike. If Amendment 73 passes, CAL, CASL, and EveryLibrary will work hard to help principals, superintendents, and school boards put their school library programs to work establishing real equity across districts. EveryLibrary is standing with CAL and CASL because we believe that every child should have access to a school library. We join them in asking you to Pledge to Vote YES on Amendment 73 in November because we want to see a school librarian in every library, too.

Learn More about Amendment 73

If Amendment 73 passes in November, several critically important things will happen for to improve school funding across Colorado:

  • Allocate funding in a fair and equitable manner among the local school districts, with recognition of differences related to size, geography, population demographics, and local economic and cost factors;
  • Assure more adequate funding for specialized programs addressed to students with special needs, gifted and talented students, students living in poverty, English language learners, and other identifiable groups who would benefit from such programs;
  • More adequately fund programs to address the critical importance of early childhood learning;
  • Provide for the recruitment and retention of quality teachers;
  • And provide a model for funding that will be transparent and easily understandable by the public

A donation of $25-50 supports our political actions for libraries

But it will only pass if we can reach more people who care about the future of education in Colorado.
