An Opportunity To Support Libraries in Three States

As the nation’s Political Action Committee for libraries, we have an opportunity to dramatically improve funding for libraries in three states. But we can only do it with your support.

If you live in New Jersey, Michigan, or Pennsylvania, please sign and share these petitions. If you don't live in these states you can still make a difference with a donation of just $10 today.

Right now, every $10 we raise allows us to reach more than 1,000 American voters with time-critical calls-to-action about funding - both for public libraries and school libraries.

New Jersey

Funding for the library per capita state aid program was drastically cut under Governor Christie’s first budget in FY10. This decline in per capita state aid has taken a toll on local library services. That budget was approximately $28.4 billion. Since that time the state budget has increased over 20% to $34.7 billion; however, the per capita state aid program has remained at this reduced level of $3.6 million. This petition supports bills that would increase state-level funding for libraries in New Jersey.

Pennsylvania

In PA today, 115 school districts only have one school librarian for their entire district - and 22 districts have no school librarian! Pennsylvania now ranks sixth in the list of states that have lost the most school librarians since 2010. That’s why we’re working with the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association to support bills that would to keep school librarians in PA schools!

Michigan

Currently, only 8% of schools in Michigan have a full-time certified school librarian on staff. Michigan ranks 47th in the country for its ‘students to librarians’ ratio. It’s no coincidence then that in 2018, 56 percent of third-graders failed the Michigan state reading assessment test. This is why we are working to support three bills from the Michigan Association for Media in Education (MAME) that would mandate school libraries and librarians and dramatically improve reading and literacy in the state.

We need people like you.
We need eople who know how important libraries are to their communities and in our schools to support our work. With a monthly donation of just $1 per month, you’ll help us ensure almost $20,000 in library funding across the country. A one-time donation of just $10 or $25 helps ensure that $16,00-$40,000 in funding is secured for libraries.

Can you make a small contribution to ensure that EveryLibrary can support these critical library issues today?

Thank you!
