Urge the NH-V BOE to protect students' right to read

Send a message to the leaders of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees School District urging them to follow district Policy 2530 and support intellectual freedom.

The reconsideration committee at North Hunterdon-Voorhees has completed its evaluation of Let's Talk About It, a sex ed book in graphic novel format. After evaluating the book on a 5-point scale against district selection criteria, the committee rated "Let's Talk About It" a 4, meaning the book meets the selection criteria well.

Despite that consensus, three of the six committee members want to ban the book because they disagree with the 5-page chapter on sexting. This stance disregards the reconsideration process guideline to review the work as a whole and the prohibition against removing material "solely because it represents ideas that may be unpopular or offensive to some."

The decision now rests with the Board or Education, which will vote on May 7. Send a message to the leaders of the North Hunterdon-Voorhees School District urging them to follow district Policy 2530 and support intellectual freedom.
