SEND AN EMAIL: Reject SB89 in Alabama

Please join Read Freely Alabama and EveryLibrary to Say No to SB10 in Alabama.

The Alabama Library Association needs your help in defeating SB89, a bill targeting one specific library in Alabama. They issued this statement:

“Representative DuBose, through her bill HB89, seems eager to strip North Shelby residents of their rights.  The North Shelby Library Board was created at the ballot box by residents, and those same residents should retain their right to amend their policies, not the politicians in Montgomery."

SB89 would rob parents of their rights. The Alabama Library Association believes responsibility for supervising children’s reading material rests with their parents, not politicians in Montgomery. Library policies, including rules for unsupervised minors and access to books, should be decided at the local level, not in the state house.

Please help the Alabama Library Association hold the line against SB89 and other bills that would dismantle local libraries and abridge the freedom to read. Send an email to your state Representative and Senator now to Reject SB89. EveryLibray is proud to stand with ALLA in making this call to action.
