PETITION: Support the Prison Libraries Act!

The Prison Libraries Act is a smart, evidence-based investment in public safety, rehabilitation, and second chances.

5,459 signatures
Goal: 10,000 signatures

Research consistently shows that education in prison lowers the likelihood of reoffending. Access to reading materials improves literacy, critical thinking, and mental health. For many incarcerated individuals, a library is the first place they experience structured learning, civic education, and hope for a different future.

The Prison Libraries Act would ensure that correctional facilities provide meaningful access to library services, trained staff, and up-to-date materials. It recognizes that rehabilitation is not a luxury; it is a public safety strategy.

When people leave prison with stronger skills and a clearer path forward, communities are safer, and taxpayers save money.

This petition calls on lawmakers to support the Prison Libraries Act (H.R.7247) and affirm a simple truth: access to information and education should not disappear at the prison gate.

Investing in prison libraries is an investment in communities, stronger families, and a more just society.

Sign this petition and stand for rehabilitation, literacy, and second chances.

The Prison Libraries Act would ensure consistent, meaningful access to professionally supported library services in correctional facilities. This investment in education and rehabilitation strengthens public safety, reduces repeat offenses, and saves taxpayer dollars in the long term.

We believe that access to information, literacy, and education should not end at the prison gate. Rehabilitation works. Education works. Libraries work.

We call on lawmakers to support and pass H.R. 7247, the Prison Libraries Act.
