In his first term, President Trump proposed defunding IMLS, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the backbone of federal aid to state libraries and local grants.

His proposed "Department of Government Efficiency" would make $2 trillion in cuts to the federal budget this term, including eliminating entire agencies.

Congress must pass a stable continuing budget resolution by March 17, 2025, to fund IMLS, NEH, NEA, and other critical federal programs for libraries, museums, and archives.

It is the first test of the future of IMLS under the Trump Administration and the new Congress.
