SEND AN EMAIL: Stop the Budget Cuts and SAVE THE PLEASANTON LIBRARY

City Leaders plan to cut library hours, slash book budgets, and layoff staff. Doors will be locked and people will lose space for work and study and access to books.

The Pleasanton Library is loved by all ages! Families, students, adults, and seniors; if you love books, information, and public gathering spaces, The Pleasanton Library is YOURS. But the City of Pleasanton’s leadership is proposing cutting $1.27 million from the library budget. This means significant reductions to open hours, free materials, programs, and staff layoffs.

The City’s recommendations include:

    • closing completely on Sundays
    • 23% reduction in hours: opening at 11am and closing at 7pm.
    • 50% reduction to the library budget for books, movies, eBooks, and digital subscriptions.
    • Eliminating part-time staff, including all library book shelvers.

These cuts will result in reduced access to information, reduced access to public space for study and learning, and reduced access to early literacy tools for young children.

You can take action by emailing the Pleasanton Mayor and City Leaders. Tell them that the library is important to you, and to keep the library open 7 days a week. The City Council makes final decisions on where budget cuts will occur. Every voice counts! Save the Pleasanton Library!
