Description:

The Content Volunteers create articles, essays, blog posts, and other written content to support libraries and related issues in the United States. This is an opportunity to create high-impact content and get published on a wide variety of mediums. From in-print to online, this volunteer will create content that addresses opposition claims to library campaigns, create entertaining content for blog posts and journals, and draft fundraising emails or engaging petition content on legislative issues around librarianship. Most articles and publications from library organizations are designed to speak to other librarians. While there is value in librarians talking to each other, our articles are designed to do something that no one else in libraries is doing: we are intentionally and continually talking to Americans about libraries to build understanding and political support. Your articles will help us reach over 1,000,000 Americans each week -- and we allow and encourage libraries across the country to repurpose our content to help build local support.

Duties:

Writing articles that are 850-1000 words in length as well as emails and petitions to specified lengths.
Completing research on topics related to legislative issues and trends in librarianship.
Brainstorm ideas about libraries that would interest the general public. Imagine you're writing a letter to a neighbor who doesn’t use the library. Your goal is to help them understand how supporting libraries can benefit them. You should also address any obstacles or misconceptions they may have about using the library.
(Seasonal) copyediting The Political Librarian as needed.

Qualifications:

Writing skills
Experience with content creation, political messaging, marketing, editing, or research are a great bonus but are not required.
