Free Test Prep Resources for High Schoolers
Did you know you can get free study guides and practice exams from your library?
Your teen can find all the support they need for exam day at the library.
Exams can be stressful for high school students, especially those taking more difficult honors and AP classes. However, this stress can be eased with access to study materials and resources. Fortunately, most local libraries provide these resources at absolutely no cost. Here’s everything you need to know about the test prep resources that libraries offer and how high schoolers can take advantage of them.
Free Study Guides
The most important part of any test prep process is studying. But studying without any sense of direction is inefficient, time-consuming, and stressful. To get the most out of your study sessions, you need a study guide, which your local library offers in abundance.
Next time you visit your local library, take a look through the catalog for study guides. There’s a guide for just about any exam and subject, and you can get them as printouts or online files, whichever you prefer. Of course, being from the library, they’re all available for free!

Practice Exams
One of the best ways to prepare for an exam is to take a low-stakes practice test. Whether students need an ACT practice test, SAT practice test, or any other standardized exam, they can be found at the local library.
If you’re interested in taking one of these practice exams, check your library’s schedule. Some libraries offer mock test days where you can take the test under circumstances similar to the real thing, proctor and all. This helps ease some of the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding test day, so attending one is well worth your time.

Test Prep Workshops
Many tests, like the AP exam, are overwhelming if you don’t know what to do, but they become much easier with a sound strategy. Libraries often host test prep workshops that cover these strategies, how to apply them to different exam situations, and how they’ll help you earn a better grade. These strategies will help you break the exam down into more manageable pieces, reducing stress and improving your score.
