Libraries2024: What You Need to Know Before Hitting the Polls This Year
Are you aware of the issues affecting your local libraries this election season?
Libraries2024 is here to keep you informed on current issues for libraries and how to support them this election season.
The US is drawing closer to what many are calling the most important electoral season in our nation’s history, and for good reason. Many contentious issues are at stake, and America seems more politically polarized than ever.
With all the misinformation on television, the internet, and social media, it can be tough to discern trustworthy sources from fake news. And between holding down a job and taking care of your family, you might not have time to keep up with today’s most pressing issues—including library budget cuts and book bans—that will play a role in the upcoming election.
EveryLibrary’s Libraries2024 initiative is here to provide you with the resources you need to register to vote and learn what you can do to support your local library and community during this election season.

Voting for Your Library
Believe it or not, your vote can make a massive difference for your local library. The past few years have been challenging for public libraries amid budget cuts, book bans, and other challenges. One of the best ways to support your public library is also one of the easiest: Just go out and vote!
When you’re ready to make your voice heard at the polls, remember that the election is about more than just the presidency. While the POTUS has a considerable amount of power on a national and global scale, they’re not as involved with things on a local level. The elections that matter most to your day-to-day life are the small-scale local elections many overlook.
We encourage you to take the time to vote in each of these local elections and, of course, do your research beforehand. Be sure to check out our Ballot Watch 2024 to stay on top of current issues for school and public libraries in your area. With strong support from the local government, your local libraries can continue serving the community for years to come.
Send an email to your Representatives to show your support for libraries!
How Else Can You Support Your Library?
Committing to helping public libraries involves raising awareness and encouraging others to do the same. You’ll find resources on our Libraries2024 site to help you get started right away.
Whether that’s contacting the media, emailing your local representatives, or sharing key information online, your efforts will bring attention to the struggles libraries are facing. You can also sign the pledge to vote for libraries this year!
