Students of Military Parents Deserve the Freedom to Read

While fighting abroad, their children's freedoms are being eroded at home.

President Donald Trump has issued executive orders aimed at eliminating what he termed "radical indoctrination" in K-12 education.

These directives have led to significant changes within the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools, which serve approximately 67,000 children across 160 institutions worldwide.

These students are mostly the children of Military parents who are fighting for our freedoms abroad while those same freedoms are being eroded in their children's schools.

Following the executive orders, DoDEA suspended all library books for a "compliance review."

The review focuses on identifying materials related to gender ideology and DEI topics.

Books under scrutiny include "No Truth Without Ruth," a biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and "Freckleface Strawberry" by Julianne Moore.

These books have been removed.

In addition to the library review, DoDEA has mandated that teachers remove lessons related to immigration, gender, and sexuality from their curriculum.

Educational resources covering these subjects are no longer utilized for instruction, reflecting a broader effort to eliminate content that promotes "radical gender ideology and critical race theory."

Furthermore, DoDEA has discontinued cultural observances such as Black History Month and has shut down groups like the Pride Club and Women in STEM.

While the administration asserts that these measures are necessary to prevent "radical indoctrination," these are clearly actions designed to scare the public into allowing more government regulations on the information that Americans are allowed to access.
